Camalaniugan

Camalaniugan, officially the Municipality of Camalaniugan (Ibanag: Ili nat Camalaniugan; Ilocano: Ili ti Camalaniugan; Tagalog: Bayan ng Camalaniugan), is a 4th class municipality in the province of Cagayan, Philippines. According to the 2015 census, it has a population of 24, 923 people.

The municipality of Camalaniugan got its name adopted from the word MALANIUG- a plant that found growing abundantly in all areas of the original settlement of the town. The chieftain named GUIYAB added a prefix CA and suffix AN to the word MALANIUG, hence the town’s name CAMALANIUGAN. The YBANAG tribes were the first settlers of the town along the banks of water bodies Babayuan Creek.
